What is the Maximum dosage of Modafinil?

Modafinil is basically a medicated nootropic which has ultimately helped in various spheres of life. It was originally developed by a French neurophysiologist, Michel Jouvet, along with Lafon Laboratories, and was eventually approved in the United States in 1998 with the name Provigil. Naturally, a product that massively reduces the need for sleep (a couple of hours per night are apparently more than sufficient), enhances productivity and improves working memory.

Modafinil was primarily developed as a drug to treat narcolepsy. Narcolepsy is a common disease, whereby the patients fall asleep randomly during the day. However, Modafinil allows a person to remain awake for longer periods. This is an agent which promotes wakefulness and is especially used for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea, shift work sleep disorder, excessive daytime sleepiness and narcolepsy. In spite of scoring less in the wakefulness criteria other than coffee and amphetamine, Modafinil is widely used for many other purposes.

Unfortunately, there are many discussion forums, and chat rooms, whereby one finds several self-administration studies, that suggest that the drug has some addictive effects, and long term usage of the drug might lead to sleeping disorder. However, there is no clear evidence, that suggests that Modafinil is as addictive as cocaine, and today it is largely consumed by the students, entrepreneurs or artists, for the powerful cognitive effects. Furthermore, since it is mostly consumed in the form of a pill, there are fewer chances of developing addiction.

Stay Awake With Modafinil Without Any Side Effects:

EEG studies indicate that Modafinil, amphetamine and caffeine are all said to be theta wave reducing, but only modafinil possess the Alpha wave promotion during wakefulness as well as a theta wave. This is why it is better than the other two. The alertness is aroused mainly because of the presence of this in modafinil and hence, is consumed by a large number of people. However, it is ideally recommended to consume the smart drug in an appropriate amount to achieve desirable results, without any ill effects.

Normal Dosage Of Modafinil:

Observations and several researchers have made clear that the normal and healthy individuals, tested between the ages of 30-44, have shown great improvement in overall alertness and mood when they took Modanifil in a proper and controlled manner. Many of the volunteers have also reported immense mental clarity where their focus and attentiveness drastically improved after they were made to consume Modafinil.

The adult dosage for modafinil is usually 200 mg, once, daily in the morning and must be taken one hour before work. An individual can take it to a maximum of about 400 mg in a single day, but not more than that. It is never advisable for children below the age of 16 years because it may have some adverse effects on them.

The effectiveness of modafinil in the long-term does not exist for more than a time period of 9 weeks. There should be a balance between the maximum and minimum intake of modafinil. Dosage adjustment should be considered for concomitant medications that are substrates for triazolam and cyclosporine. Sometimes people use it for easy esacpes too, especially students.

InĀ  paediatric and elderly patients, elimination of modafinil and its metabolites may be reduced as an effect of aging. Therefore, preference should be given to the use of lower doses in elderly patients and most importantly, inspite of all such limitations, one must always consider confirming with a physician before depending on the nootropic.
